in college, i was sort of addicted to free cell (the computer card game like solitaire that comes with your computer - i warn you not to look it up; you'll fall for it, too). fortunately for me, my roommate was also addicted and we would both input the same game and race each other for the win. a third roommate would cheer us on. it was quite festive, for 2 a.m. (sometimes i miss college... sometimes i don't)

one of the things i like about this game is that when you manage to win, it gives you a little electronic fanfare, fireworks (even if they are, computer graphically speaking, medieval), and flashes "you win!!" across the screen. makes you feel like you've accomplished something.

i'm thinking of this particularly because i just finished paying off my student loans. as i wrote that last check, i admit i was hoping for something in return: a certificate that would be mailed to my door or perhaps an e-card with "congrats!!" flashing in bright colors. i would have settled for one last notice saying "you have completed...". a sort of certificate of achievement, if you will.

instead, all i got was the satisfaction of knowing that i wouldn't be receiving any more bills. the adult world is sadly devoid of cheerleaders.

Wow. You have my cheer! That's an amazing accomplishment. Good for you!
