this is why i will never understand boys.

quick background info: we have a daily challenge question at the library at the prize is a stamp on the back of the child's hand. the kids are really pleased to have turtles, mermaids, pirates, aliens, cats, bunnies and more stamped on their hand. (also, it's a renewable prize!)

today, one of the boys answered the question and held out his hand to be stamped.

"oh," i said, noticing the large shallow scab forming on the back of his hand, "let's try to avoid stamping on that."

"these kids at school did that," he said. "they rub the back of your hand and you have to come up with things that start with all the letters of the alphabet before they stop rubbing. i had a hard time. it burned a lot."

i made a sympathetic noise and reached for his other hand. lo and behold, he had a similar mark on this one.

"why do you have two?" i asked.

"i did it twice."
