by all accounts, i should be a shusher. i'm a librarian, after all. i've found, however, that it's sort of pointless, especially in my library which tends to be more of a community center with books rather than a library (i'm still trying to sell the "you can just come any time and read" idea to our customers).

this does not mean that i don't appreciate a good shush, though.

for example: we're riding the bus in the morning and someone is talking waaaay too loudly into her phone about something that none of the rest of us want to know about (why is it always something like that? "are you going to leave him" or "so the rash kept spreading"...). then, seemingly out of nowhere, "SHHHHHH."

i didn't say it. but i was grateful anyway.
