in the movie "cloudy with a chance of meatballs", the main character is a scientist and an inventor who makes a monkey-mind translator. whatever the monkey is thinking, he says with his translator (in neil patrick harris' voice, in case you were interested).
according to the movie, monkeys mostly think their own names (steeeeeve!) and like to name whatever they happen to be holding or doing ("can!!!!" or, when he has a lollipop, "lick. lick. lick.").
now, i'm totally on board with the monkey translator thing (i'm a theatre major, i can suspend disbelief), but i guess i always thought that monkeys would have more thoughts than that.
then, i heard saw someone running for the train and saying under their breath: "run....run....run....."
and, even worse, driving through new jersey, mike and i passed a river and said, simultaneously, "river!"
i'm not trying to make a point about evolution or anything nearly that deep here, i'm just saying that maybe we don't have as many thoughts as we think we do.
and now i want a lollipop.
