michelle asked me the other day if she should watch the movie "up." i told her that the first fifteen minutes were priceless, but that it sort of fell off for me when the house started flying.
then i remembered that i also liked the talking dogs. (SQUIRREL!!) michelle pointed out to me that i really liked movies with talking animals (see my previous post about "cloudy with a chance of meatballs") and the evidence certainly seems to point to that conclusion.
i think it comes from wanting to know what my cats are thinking.
what, for example, is charlotte telling me when i come in the door? she comes up to me, then runs to the bedroom and jumps on the bed, all the while making grousing little "mrow! mrow! mrow!" noises. i'm guessing that she's complaining about what fred did to her that day (having seen fred in action, i'm sure it wasn't good) .
then there's fred himself. mostly, he's a holy terror. but, occasionally, the five of us will be sitting in the living room and fred will get up, stretch, and wander in to the bedroom. a few seconds later, he lets out the most plaintive sound you will ever hear. it sounds like he's lost - but our apartment is only 500 sq feet, so he can't be THAT lost.
so yes, sometimes, i wish i could understand what they were trying to tell me.
on the other hand, both movie solutions involved putting something actually on the pet (a collar, a special head contraption) so my guess is that if i tried to put this stuff on my cats, i probably wouldn't want to hear what they had to say about that.

RE: understanding what cats are thinking. Totally with you there. Rogue does the same thing where she is in the basement or somewhere where we are not and she lets out this meow that sounds like she's totally alone and can't figure out how to find us.
RE: whether to recommend Up. One caveat I would have with watching Up is make sure not to watch it when you either are currently pregnant, just gave birth or just miscarried. Dan and I went to see it when I was about 8 months pregnant. BIG mistake. I was a blubbering mess.
