"going on a bear hunt" is one of those fantastic rhymes that will pull in preschoolers and kindergartners with very little effort.

it's sing-song. "we're going on a bear hunt, we're gonna catch a big one...."

the rhythm is built in. "can't go over it. can't go under it..."

you have lots of cool hand motions. "swishy swashy" and "splashy splashy!"

it's all good stuff.

especially when i'm doing this rhyme and the kids are following right along with me and we come up to the mud. icky gooey mud.

"can't go over it!" i say, "can't go under it!"

and one of the kindergartners chimes in "can't eat it!"
