when my cousin was here a few months ago, we ended up spending a lot of time riding around in the car together which gave him enough fodder for the following comment: "you over-analyze EVERYTHING." this is called fair warning for what's about to happen.

the trouble with liking certain tv shows (i love "glee"!) is that you get stuck watching commercials. most of these are pretty stupid, but occasionally one sticks with me.

like the swiffer sweeper commercial. these feature a woman who really really likes cleaning with her new swiffer sweeper while her old broom or mop tries to win her back by sending her singing telegrams or roses, appearing in the grocery store in front of her while "baby, come back!" plays, or driving by her house broken-heartedly while the radio blasts "love stinks."

maybe it's because i'm a children's librarian, but anthropomorphizing always works on me. and in this case, it was working so well that i didn't want to ever buy a swiffer sweeper and break my broom or mop's heart.

my guess is that someone else felt this way - so much so that in the past little while new commercials have started to appear. they start the same way (the woman still LOVES cleaning with her swiffer) but once she ditches her old broom into the garage, the narration says "but don't worry - he'll find someone else." then the focus goes to a random object in storage (a vase, say) and the music goes "who's that lady...?"

i don't know if i'm more likely to buy a swiffer, but i am glad to hear that there is hope even for old brooms and mops that nobody seems to want anymore.

just don't get me started on the bayer commercials.

ok, so cute! Just for fun watch the airtran conference call commercial. I asked Kayle if that's how he acts at business meetings...it's so not Kayle, but there's a line in the commercial that personalizes it for the Hinkle family.
