things i saw on the subway tonight:

- a woman in a floor length fur coat and a diamond the size of my thumbnail on her left hand. if she was so rich, why was she on the subway? or maybe she blew it all on her clothes.

- a woman and her sons discussing stuyvesant high school. despite the many times they repeated the name of the school, i'm still not sure how to pronounce it. they discussed the pros and cons of various schools, how to pick the best lab partner and how many grandparent deaths could plausibly get you out of class before the administration got suspicious (apparently the mother's college roommate was told "wow, they are dropping like flies!" when she "lost" three of her grandparents in quick succession).

- (maybe you shouldn't read this one, mom) i was walking up the stairs out of the subway and was semi-blocked by three men coming down the stairs together. i was trying to figure out why they didn't streamline to single file, when i noticed that one of them was a policeman and had his arm firmly on the elbow of the guy who had his hat pulled down over his face... yeah, he was getting arrested. on the plus side, there were policemen... right?

anyway. on to more cheerful things like: how sick i am. i actually went to work today for the first time in a few days, which was good. i had to go, though, because i had back to back preschool visits. so on a sick stomach and a weak voice, i sang, danced, told stories, and thouroughly entertained 65 four year olds. this earned me the right to a nap in the afternoon (seriously. i was ordered into the break room to sleep)

what i actually have, god only knows. so far, the guesses are: migraine, cold, flu, cough, exhaustion, mono, and terminal ugliness. i'll keep you posted.
