it's raining in new york city. this means several things.

one - you're going to get wet. this is a walking city, after all, and some things just can't be avoided.

two - the buses and trains will be miserable. not only will they have the normal crowd of riders, but those who usually walk will jump on public transportation in an attempt to not get wet (which is, as aforementioned, pretty much impossible). being on a crowded subway is not that fun. being on a super-crowded subway when everyone is wet and the whole place smells like wet dog is even less fun.

three - you will have at least one umbrella run-in. the sidewalks are narrow as it is and when everyone of various heights with various umbrella sizes floods the streets (pun totally intended - don't even get me started on the flooding in the streets), it's downright dangerous. and when people get to the subway entrances, you really have to watch your head, eyes, and any other body part you hold dear as people close their umbrellas with no regard as to who they could stab.

it's also fun to see the guys standing at the subway exits selling cheap umbrellas. i admit that after too many run-ins with oblivious umbrella-wielding commuters, i get a sadistic kick out of seeing those cheap umbrellas laying in pieces on the sidewalks. although now that i think of it, this just means that umbrellas will be attacking from the ground up as well. i'm doomed.
