and i have once again breached my posting once a week policy. oops.

we have, however, been very busy. first, we attended a wedding. our best friends' wedding, no less, where we all looked fabulous and i cried every time i tried to say something to them. it was ridiculous. although if anyone heard my toast through my tears, it really was good. honest.

then mike and i got to spend a day with our gorgeous niece sophia. she's already six months old and it's the first time we met her! she was marvelous and adorable and we had a great time just cuddling with her.

then it was back to work on monday morning and it's been chaos ever since. on tuesday i hosted medieval day at the library. this means that we did all sorts of medieval things like making flower wreaths and designing knight shields (did you know that a swan on the shield means poetic and musical?).

but the best part was the jousting. i set up paper plates with holes in them and the kids had to get them with a wooden lance (mike's ninjitsu stuff that he lent me). i had the kids use the lance with one hand and carry a stuffed horse in the other (it has to be at least a little challenging!). unfortunately, i only had one stuffed horse, so my other brave knight had to carry the bold stuffed chicken instead of the noble steed. things that make my job worthwhile: the kids faces when i handed them the chicken and called it the bold chicken. i love the giggles.

tonight we invited one hundred kids from a local school to come visit the library. i set up all sorts of stations and the kids did crafts, read poetry, and got free books. my boss was impressed with the turnout and i was pleased with how it all turned out. hopefully some of them will come back during the summer for more fun and games. they were asking if this sort of thing happened every day.

a mother came in with her children today and wanted to know when we had programs for them. i told her that we didn't have anything at that specific moment, but that she was welcome to hang out in the library and color or do puzzles or read. she sounded surprised. this reminds me of michael who is always surprised at how many things happen at my library - he just remembers that his library had books.

here's to making great memories for my kids. (i hope the bold chicken will go down in history)
