so my subway line only goes so far on the weekends. after that, i have to take a shuttle bus to get all the way to work. this is particularly annoying since i have to work saturdays and therefore have to deal with the bus.
yesterday, i decided that the bus was going to take too long (i watched from the bus stop as it advanced twenty feet in five minutes) and walked 30 blocks through my neighborhood to get to another train. it was already dark, but the streets were like a carnival. lots of people selling things at the side of the road and the sidewalks were very crowded. i even saw someone roasting a pig and cutting pieces off it for buyers - i was a little disconcerted by its head, but there you have it.
mike and i found a goodwill near our aparmtent (go figure!) so we dropped off the stuff we didn't need in our apartment anymore and looked around. we ended up with a taboo junior ($2!!) for my kids at the library and a suitcoat for mike. we figured that this is the upper east side, for goodness sakes, they probably have some nice coats to donate! and they did, but none of them fit mike as well as we might have hoped. and i realized that i know nothing about suits. i do know that there are more differences than i thought (2 buttons? 4 buttons? three pockets? 2 pockets?) but that, really, they are not nearly as interesting as dresses. clearly everyone should wear dresses instead.
masterpiece theater is doing a jane austen series. tonight, mike and i are watching "persuasion." mike actually listened to this whole book on tape recently so he's complaining that the movie doesn't quite follow the book. did you get that? mike is complaining about the accuracy of a jane austen movie! sorry, girls, he's mine. :-)
