winter has sort of hit the city (finally). on monday we got snow all day long which eventually turned to slush, got into my shoes, and had me walking to the subway with my teeth chattering uncontrollably.

yesterday, it just rained all day. this makes for a particularly miserable commute, since everyone is wet and annoyed and poking you with their umbrellas (rain really brings out the selfish in people - take it from someone who doesn't use an umbrella. it's a jungle out there).

i was trying to catch the bus going across town and the lady in front of me said "do you know what's going on?" i looked up (which i rarely do in the rain - or commuting for that matter. i'm really turning into one of those stone-faced straphangers they're always talking about) and shook my head. of course, by looking up i also noticed the large number of news and police vehicles in front of the building right behind the bus stop.

the woman in front of us, holding an umbrella over herself and her kid, cleared it up for us. "someone was murdered," she said. "with a C-L-E-A-V-E-R." seeing how long it took us to figure out what she was spelling, i'm pretty sure her son's ears were safe.

unlike this city, apparently. huh.
