i have to say, i've been a little disappointed with new york cab drivers. yes, they drive like bats out of well, you know, but they aren't like in the movies: chatty and full of new york stories and advice and so forth.

weeeellll, they say you should be careful what you wish for and i think they were right.

i caught a cab yesterday morning. my driver was a kenyan (KENYANS!) who rattled on for the entire ride. he was talking very quickly and with an accent, so i didn't catch everything he was saying, but it seemed to be something about how gas had gone up so much that my cab ride was going to cost 75 thousand dollars and if i didn't pay him then he would send me to africa and tell anyone looking for me that he had never seen me before (it's ok, mom, i made it home safely). then i think it morphed into a business proposition where we somehow made a bank account where we charged people 75 thousand dollars for cab rides - but that also ended with him taking all the money and sending me to africa.

in the end, he only took me to 63rd and lexington, told me i looked tired and could therefore pay him on the $6 the meter called for instead of 75 grand.

too bad. i've never been to africa.

... Does this guy have a relative in Nigeria? Because I received a similar-sounding email, not too long ago ... ;)
