we just came back from a weekend in grand rapids. for those of you we did see, we loved seeing you! for those of you we missed, we still love you - and we hope to see you at christmas when we'll be back in town (unless, of course, you come visit us first...)

debbie sue and dan's wedding was lovely (as were they). it's the best kind of wedding when it's obvious that they love each other and all of us are just so glad to see them together.

on our way to michigan, we took the bus, the subway and another bus to get to the airport. it took us an hour and forty five minutes and cost four dollars a piece. on the way back, we took a taxi from the airport to our apartment. it cost us 8 dollars a piece and took 14 minutes. clearly, one of these ways is superior. interestingly enough, we did forget that once we arrived in michigan, we would need to be picked up at the airport since cabs are not as common in grand rapids. kudos to my mother for thinking of that. and extra kudos for coming to get us.

we watched "a streetcar named desire" last night (yay for blockbuster online rental things). i still have trouble reconciling that marlon brando with the marlon brando in the godfather. also, i realized that i still dislike tennessee williams and that no matter how many times i read his plays or watch his plays (in any form) i'm not going to grow to like him. i've decided i'm ok with that.

now it's back to "real" life (and time with our cats who will eventually forgive us for leaving them for three days). the library should come through with an offer very soon (let's all keep praying) and mike is back at work today being a good chemist. still, it was strange to fly over manhattan and think "home. huh." (hey, i was running on less than 10 hours of sleep in two days, it's not my fault i wasn't very articulate).
