i've decided that i need to write more in my own journal, especially since i have so much time on the train to do it. so i've been carting my journal back and forth and writing in it when i get a chance. unfortunately, i can't write in it without everyone else on the crowded train looking over my shoulder.

this is my solution: i've come up with a secret code that i can use on the subway.

mike caught me writing in code the other day and laughed at me. i started thinking that maybe i was just paranoid. like when i was young and my mother would tell me to try something on in the aisles of the store because no one was watching. she was right, no one ever was.

but then today i was working in a puzzle book and the man next to me leaned over and said "sellers. and try 'put off' for number 32."

i am SO keeping my code.

Shucks! I was ready to claim victory...no one was ever watching, then this individual comes along..."just like a man" to mess it all up!

I would definitely keep the code. I have at times found myself reading over people's shoulders when I don't have anything else to do on the train. I always tell myself that I shouldn't be doing it, but somehow I still do. Mostly I just read the headlines on their newspapers, but still... Plus, having a secret code is cool.

Have you ever read Capture the Castle? She writes in shorthand in her journal which I guess is so illegible that most people can't read it. I agree with Laura, keep the code, cause it's cool.
