there are two things you should know about me.

number one: i walk very fast. mike is constantly telling me to slow down - we've even had to work out a way to walk and hold hands that allows me to be slightly ahead while still walking somewhat in sync. yes, we're that sad.

i must say, however, that walking fast has served me well in new york. i fit in to the pace of the city and yes, i get annoyed when people walk slowly or when a group of tourists block the entire sidewalk.

number two: last spring i bought a pair of fantastic boots.

because of the whole summer weather thing, i haven't worn them in a while. today, i pulled them out again and in vengeance they gave me a blister. i realized rather quickly that i was going to have to walk very slowly if i didn't want my foot to rebel against the pain and fall off.

i thought this might be a good time to see how the other side lives. to understand how people feel when fast walkers pass them with scowls on their faces. to catch a bit of that new-york-in-the-fall atmosphere without rushing through it so quickly i can feel the burn in my legs.

nope. walking slow sucks. i plan to give it up the second my foot heals.

My awesome boots also gave me a blister recently, so I feel you pain.

Yesterday I was walking around Columbus Circle area. It was a little crowded and I wasn't sure where I was going, so I wasn't walking fast, but I also wasn't taking up the whole sidewalk. This guy walking behind me bumps against my heels and makes some sarcastic comment about "slow women walkers." As if women generally walk slower than men! I was really annoyed. But he's probably some stressed-out Wall Street exec who's losing a ton of money right now, so I kind of feel sorry for him.
