current word count: 5,961. still behind.

sunday was the new york marathon. there were thousands of runners passing by just a block from our house. mike and i were briefly in the marathon when we crossed the street to get to central park. very exciting. what i thought was interesting was that some people weren't running just to run: one guy was dressed as a rhino with a huge rhino head attached to the top and was running with a sign that said "save the rhinos." another guy was running in his fatigues and an american flag where the stars had been rearranged into a peace sign.

mike pointed out a runner who was very tall. this is unremarkable except for the fact that i had seen him the day before on the subway. to date, this is the only new yorker i have seen more than once. and i travel by the same forms of transportation every day at the same times. maybe new yorkers dissipate every evening at midnight and are then replaced by completely new new yorkers. that would explain new yorkers' famous apathy.
