for halloween, mike and i attempted to attend the famous parade that winds through the village on 6th avenue. i say attempted because what we mostly did was get crushed in the enormous crowd of people trying to get a glimpse of the floats. the cops were half-heartedly trying to get people to move, but it wasn't really working. it got scary for a moment when the crowd was pressing at us from all sides and the girl next to me started hyperventilating.

we saw some cool costumes, though, including a guy with a beard wearing a girl-coming-out-of-a-birthday-cake outfit, a girl wearing only a cape and paint (which didn't really hide things, let me tell you), lots of ghoulish things, little red riding hood with a bloody ax dragging a wolf in a nightgown by a collar, and several guys in dresses (including one with a huge black wedding dress and veil). there was also a mormon guy with a sign that said "halloween is the devil's holiday."

celebrity sighting: three limos passed me today on the street. i hate limos here because back at home you could think "oh, just some teenagers going to prom" or something like that. but here, you know that there is someone famous in there. so does that make it a reverse celebrity sighting since, technically, i didn't see the celebrities, but they saw me?

i have joined nanowrimo: national novel writing month. this means that by the end of november, i will hopefully have a 50,000 word novel to show for my efforts. and if it sucks, no, you may not read it. of course, if it gets published, i will send all of you first editions.
