this is what i love about the children i work with:

the other day, we had a guest do storytime with the toddlers. he had a variety of instruments and scarves, etc. for the kids to manipulate. at one point, he handed out colored plastic eggs for the kids to shake in time to the music. before he did, however, he added the disclaimer "now we are all going to be happy with the color we get and not argue or cry, ok?" now, on the one hand, most of these kids come from spanish speaking families and didn't have much of an idea of what he was saying, but on the other hand, none of them would have considered arguing about it.

considering that i myself was a "but i want the BLUE cup" child, these kids could have taught me a thing or two.

and now for something completely different: my wardrobe.

on sunday we went out for a stroll in the park (yeah, that's central park). while on our little promenade, i crossed paths with an honest to goodness new yorker who was wearing the exact same outfit that i was. i believe that in some cases, this would be an awkward or humiliating moment. for me, though, it was just validation. i dressed like a new yorker. ha.

(for future reference, don't expect this to happen every day. or even any day that i happen to be around you. i don't want to set the standards too high)

So, what were you wearing? Don't leave us in suspense. BTW, did Laura tell you about the random interaction I had with a real New Yorker over the phone (one who was getting her dog's teeth "done" whatever that means).
