home is never as far as we may think.

i opened up my metropolitan newspaper the other morning and discovered an article about... you guessed it! good ol' GR. it was actually an article detailing how student loans were crippling the country, but it had a picture of someone who lives in GR! this makes my home-town officially famous. because otherwise, nobody here seems to know that anything west of new jersy actually exists.

and the fact that michigan looks like a hand? totally lost on them. COME ON, PEOPLE! it's the only state you can clearly see from space! what are they teaching in these schools??

tired. very.

and currently rather upset.

a teacher was supposed to be here at the library 40 minutes ago and the class has yet to show up. i have another program i have to run in 15 minutes, so if they don't show up soon, they are out of luck. so rolls the wheel of a very busy branch.

(also, i got up an hour earlier to be here on time for this teacher. how is this fair??)

something i've noticed about new yorkers. it's not (just) that they are stand-offish when you approach them; some of them go out of their way to be mean. yesterday, while walking home, a guy was riding his bike down the sidewalk. a woman standing on the (very wide) sidewalk was smoking, talking on her cell phone and had a small dog on a leash. as he rode by, she stopped talking to her friend long enough to call out: "i hope you get a hundred dollar ticket!" and this morning on the subway we all got onto the train and some lady walked right up to another lady (so close that i thought they were friends!) and viciously whispered something at her before turning around and finding a seat further down in the car.

what can be so making these people so unhappy that they feel the need to make the extra effort to belittle someone?

maybe they got stood up by a teacher.

She stood you up? :) :)

Great entry! Love to read about life in NYC!! New Yorkers don't seem to understand that there is a whole world all around them!! Even though they have such a diverse population!! Oh, well...
