mike interviewed in boston yesterday. since i had the day off, i decided to go with him to check out the city.
i met up with dan, who lives there now and who was willing to walk all over cambridge with me. we saw MIT. hence the photograph of the MIT dome.

i also saw a familiar structure. (sorry for the poor picture quality - it was dark out!)

"that's a calder!" i said to dan. "what's a calder?" he replied. i guess calder is only famous to some people.

mike was interviewing all day wednesday, so i toured the city on my own. i started off at the museum of fine arts. i think you are supposed to learn something when you go to a museum, so this is what i learned: when a museum is being renovated, it's very difficult to figure out which parts of a room are modern art and which are vestiges of construction. i decided not to linger too long near the hinge-less doors leaning against a wall... just in case.

i also learned that i'm not much of an art museum person (although, arguably, i knew that already). when you are at an art museum at 11 on a wednesday morning, the bulk of the people visiting with you are school groups. did i relish the fact that i could walk quickly by things while they answered questions like "how can you tell the lady in this picture is wealthy?" yes, yes i did.

i did take a picture of a statue i found particularly charming.

if mike were an artist, i could SO be his inspiration.

then it was off to the public garden ...
...to take pictures of the make way for ducklings! duck statues. i got a nice shot...

... and made friends with a very un-shy squirrel.

also, as a point of interest, the cop patrolling the park was on horseback.
finally, i headed to the boston public library to figure out the deal over there. on my way, i saw trinity church and took this very cliched picture of ancient building versus modern building.

i had to take it, despite the predictability of it. i did try to make up for it by taking this picture of the modern building with the cool reflection.

sigh. perhaps it's best i never went into a career in photography.

i'm a little surprised by how much new york has influenced me (i keep thinking that i'm wasting my time in new york since i don't order chinese food at three a.m. or stalk celebrities), but my main thought about boston was "it ain't new york!" but i think, given the chance, we could be happy there.

let's all hope we're given the chance.

You probably could not compete with Scott's photographs, but I think yours are beautiful! Thanks for sharing! :)

So, Boston your preference then?
