my mother always said that there wasn't anything good on television. that's why i didn't have a tv until i was ten years old - and then we just got one for my little brother to watch sesame street. i didn't mind; the only downside was my inability to successfully play television tag.
now that my brother and i are older, though, we both have tvs. and we have both realized on our own the time-suck that they can be (discernment! good calvinists!). my biggest problem, though, are the commercials.
wow! my hair could pull pipes out of concrete! i could make everybody happy with a pound of ground beef and the stuff in that box! if i had kids, i would totally feed them that juice and that cereal because then they would love me!
ever since i've had to clean my apartment, though, what really gets me are the cleaning product ads. everything is so easy and so sparkling! no more tough stains! no more scrubbing! no more sponges that smell like bleach and make me gag! i try to fight the urge to buy all these things. after all, in the end i still have to do the cleaning myself.
i did, however, give in to one thing: mr. clean magic erasers. let me tell you, they are AWESOME. mike's bike left marks on the wall? weird stuff in the bathtub? things just ain't as white as they used to be? no problem for mr. clean magic erasers!
i told mike he'd better watch out - i might leave him for mr. clean. and we all know i have a thing for bald men.

Oh, you caught on the turn at the end. LOL!
I always hate how in those cleaning commercials the women are so fresh-looking and graceful and happy. If I used their cleaning products, I can bet you I'd still end up sweaty and gross, with my hair half tied back and falling all over the place and my clothes covered in splatters that we hope are just water. Sigh.
Mother still stands by her words! That's why our t.v. is always off at our house. Unless, of course, there is a UM, Tigers, Pistons, Notre Dame, etc. etc game!!
By the way, great entry! Especially the end!
