they say new yorkers are pretty hostile.
and when i think of the woman wearing a t-shirt that said "you're really pretty ... f^&%ing stupid" or the girl on the sidewalk who deliberately pushed her lit cigarette into my elbow (i had a burn mark for 3 days), i am inclined to agree.
but there's always the girl at starbucks who smiled at the clearly off-balance older woman who was complaining somewhat unintelligibly about the coffee ("she comes in here every day," the girl told me quietly) or the subway conductor who saw me heading for the train and reopened the doors so i could get in.
it's enough to give you hope in the world after all.
